About the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Kenya

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Kenya is an independent prosecutorial authority established by Article 157 of the Kenyan Constitution. Serving as the National Prosecuting Authority, it is constitutionally mandated to handle all criminal cases within the country.

Qualifications

For consideration for this role, candidates must possess the following:

  • Served in the grade of Senior Public Communications Officer or in a comparable and relevant position in the Public Service or Private Sector for a minimum period of two (2) years.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Mass Communication, Communication Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, social sciences, or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations/Journalism/Mass Communication from a recognized institution in case of a general degree.
  • Membership to Public Relations Society of Kenya or any other relevant professional body with good standing.
  • Meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010; Integrity, Leadership, Honesty, Accountability, and Discipline in the service to people.

Note: Possession of a Senior Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Principal Public Communication Officer will be responsible to the Senior Assistant Director, Public Communications. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating the development, implementation, and review of Public Communication policies, standards, systems, strategies, and procedures for the Office.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of Public Communication policies, guidelines, procedures, and standards.
  • Implementing the divisional annual work plan.
  • Supervising and appraising staff working under them.
  • Branding ODPP events to enhance the visibility of the organization.
  • Implementing ODPP service delivery charter.
  • Mentoring, coaching, training, and developing staff in the division.
  • Updating content for the website and digital media platforms.
  • Disseminating Information Education Communication (IEC) materials in line with ODPP media quality standards.
  • Providing support in Corporate Social Responsibility programs and Community Engagements in line with the ODPP mandate.
  • Identifying events for propagating and promoting ODPP policies, programs, and projects.
  • Producing documentaries, bulletins, and newsletters to sensitize, inform, and educate stakeholders and the public on the ODPP mandate.
  • Identifying and reporting on various public communication issues in ODPP and developing appropriate interventions to inform decision-making.
