Momentum Qualitative Research Transcriber

Responsibilities:

  1. Securely store all recordings, notes, and transcriptions either on a flash drive or an online filing system.
  2. Daily transcription of accurate English language transcriptions for interviews and group discussions during the data collection period.
  3. Provide English translations of any Swahili terms transcribed from the recordings, enclosed in brackets.
  4. Review drafts to correct spelling, grammar, and formatting errors before submission.
  5. Communicate promptly with the designated contact person regarding any issues.
  6. Submit all interview and group discussion transcriptions to project staff for review within two days of receipt.
  7. Revise and finalize transcriptions as required.
  8. Ensure secure filing and deletion of all transcription data before and after the data collection and analysis period, following the study protocol.

Deliverables: A complete set of transcribed, corrected interview and group discussion notes using 12 pt. Calibri or Times New Roman, 1.5 line spacing, saved in MS Word (version 2016 or above) digital file format.

Qualifications:

  1. A high school or relevant vocational school diploma with one to two years of transcription experience is required.
  2. A bachelor’s degree and one to two years in an administrative or secretarial role will be advantageous.
  3. Excellent typing speed and accuracy.
  4. Ability to focus for extended periods.
  5. Familiarity with health system and immunization terminology is desired.
  6. Experience transcribing from audio or video recordings in English.
  7. Ability to transcribe in Swahili and translate into English when needed.
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications.
  9. Secure and reliable Internet access.
  10. Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, with excellent attention to detail and quality.
  11. Current residency in Kenya and willingness to travel to project counties if needed.
  12. Written and spoken fluency in English is required.
