International Volunteer Opportunity – Animal Nutrition Advisor

We are seeking a dedicated Animal Nutrition Advisor volunteer to contribute to the development of strategies aimed at enhancing and optimizing the utilization of available and potential feed resources. The role involves implementing sound feeding and nutritional practices for both animals and humans, aligning with our one-health approach.

The position requires direct collaboration with community members, Wakulima Dairy Limited extension staff, the local coordinator, and the Africa Program Officer.

Academic Qualifications

Essential:

  • University/college degree in Nutrition or Animal Production/Science with specialization in animal feeds processing.

Desirable:

  • Fosters a culture of knowledge sharing and learning in the workplace.
  • In-depth knowledge of development issues.
  • Ability to advocate and provide policy advice.
  • Actively pursues personal learning and development in one or more Practice Areas, applying newly acquired skills.
  • Adaptation and application of knowledge.

Professional Background / Skills

Essential:

  • In-depth understanding of technical (nutritional), institutional, and policy constraints affecting major livestock feeding systems in developing countries.
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of improved animal nutrition.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of improving food and dietary diversity at the intra-household level.
  • Actively pursues personal learning and development in one or more practice areas.
  • Effective cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Commitment to the principles of volunteer cooperation, familiarity with participatory approaches to development, including the promotion of gender equality, good governance, and environmental sustainability.
  • Promotes a knowledge-sharing and learning culture in the office.

Desirable:

  • 1 – 3 years of relevant experience in the development of feed resources and improved animal nutrition, including work experience in developing countries.
