The University of Embu (UoEm) was established as a Constituent College of the University of Nairobi through Legal Notice No. 65 of 17th June, 2011 by His Excellency the President. UoEm is the successor of the former Embu Agricultural Staff Training (EAST) College, which originated in 1947 as an agricultural training school. It was later renamed Embu Institute of Agriculture in 1968 and was subsequently upgraded in 1990 to become Embu Agricultural Staff Training (EAST) College. The college’s primary mandate was to develop and implement short management and technical courses while also offering research and consultancy services to enhance performance in the agricultural sector.

Position: FARM ASSISTANT – GRADE III/IV

Applicants must hold a minimum of KCSE D+ (Plus) aggregate or KCE Division IV and possess a certificate in Animal Health and Production from the Animal Health Industry Training Institute (AHITI). Additionally, applicants must:

  • Be registered with the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB) and possess a valid practicing license.
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years of relevant post-qualification work experience as a Farm Assistant.
  • Have a working knowledge of relevant computer applications.
  • Applicants with a certificate in artificial insemination will be given preference.

Duties:

  • Supervising farm workers and coordinating farming activities.
  • Compiling and updating animal health and production records.
  • Performing routine livestock practices such as castration, dehorning, deworming, disbudding, and hoof trimming.
  • Implementing livestock disease and pest control measures.
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time.
