Job Purpose
Responsible for maritime assistance in search and rescue in accordance with International Conventions and national legislations relating to the search and rescue
Job Description
Duties and responsibilities
- Executing the SAR plan in cooperation with the sub- regional maritime rescue coordination centres;
- Liaising with Kenya civil authority in search and rescue plans
- Supervising staff in the division
- Implementing the National Oil Spill Response contingency plan (NOSRCP)
- Implements the International Convention for the prevention of pollution from Ships Marpol 73/78
- Implements the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes Code (IMSBC Code)
- Developing budget for the division ;
- Evaluating Performance of staff in the division; and
- Mentoring and coaching staff
Person Description
For appointment to this grade, an officer must:-
- Bachelor Degree in the Maritime field such as Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering any other relevant qualifications from a recognized institution;
- Master’s Degree in any of the following; Maritime Affairs, Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution will be an added advantage;
- Certificate of Competency Class 1 (II/2) in accordance with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping 1978,as amended
- Should have experience in search and rescue for a minimum period of three (3) years;
- A Management Course lasting not less than Four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
- Be a member of a relevant professional body where applicable;
- Proficiency in computer applications;
- Demonstrated results in work performance;
- Good communication skills,
- Demonstrated ability to mobilize resources;
- Proposal development skills;
- Proficiency in Computer skills;
- Meet the provision of Chapter Six of Constitution
